Manufacturing Process Engineer

Position Qualifications:

  • Technical support for all plant raw materials, production processes, vinyl plastisol mixing and formulation.
  • Manufacturing engineering support to improve operating efficiencies and quality.
  • Product Development for new flooring products, raw materials and process development.

Education and Experience:

BS in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering plus two to five years experience in vinyl industry, petrochemical, aerospace, automotive, or continuous processing. Lean Six Sigma certification/experience is desirable.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Work directly with Research, Development, Process Engineering and plant operations tasks associated Product Development and Plant technical assistance.  Generally, the duties consist of:

  • Must be safety oriented.
  • Must be flexible, adaptive and a self-starter
  • Must be able to work independently or in teams.
  • Familiarity with vinyl plastisol formulations and mixing is highly desired.
  • Familiarity and expertise in coating processes is highly desired.
  • Lead experimental production trials and follow up on testing and reports.
  • Analyze test data, draw conclusions and recommend action based on trial results.
  • Must be able to use software to develop spreadsheets, graphs, and write reports.
  • Trouble shoot process issues in plastisol mixing, gelling, and fusion operations.
  • Assist in raw material evaluations, and associated trial management.
  • Responsibility for quality assurance process relative incoming raw material.  Develop acceptance criteria for new products in concert with suppliers.
  • Responsible for product development from concept to final production.
  • Utilization of various laboratory testing equipment.
  • Union experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with water-based ink formulations, ink mixing and printing a benefit.

Surface Designer – Design Studio

Job Description:

Congoleum is seeking an experienced and talented surface texture designer to develop new flooring design direction for tile and other products.  Knowledge of how to turn artwork into flooring texture and pattern and color is key to the process.  The designer will work with color specialist and production on color trials.  The successful candidate must be a team oriented person who can work with and be an integral part of a growing collaborative design team, as well as work with other departments, to produce salable designs for residential and commercial interior markets.  The designer will also coordinate and translate design trends and manage competitive information for the design group.  A strong sense of style is required.


Responsible for creating designs for all product lines

Research and set trend / design directions with SVP Design

Pattern separations and refinement

Develop design process from new mock-ups through to cylinder development

Embossing texture development

Liaison between departments for product information

Understand how to translate trends into product and product applications

Job Position:      Reports to Design Studio Manager

Experience         Preferably 3-5 years

Salary Range      $45 - $70k

Travel:                  25%

Education           College Art, Graphic, Textile Degree Preferred

Skills:                     AVA design system knowledge a plus, MAC computer, Photoshop

Full Time:             (Will consider part-time to start with understanding phasing into full-time)
